A Vintage Hunt in Brighton: Treasures and Experiences

This weekend, I had the pleasure of indulging in one of my favourite pastimes: hunting for vintage items. Brighton, with its eclectic mix of residents and vibrant history, is a treasure trove for enthusiasts like myself. My adventure took me to two distinct car boot sales: the Brighton Marina Car Boot and the Brighton Racecourse Car Boot Sale. Each offered a unique experience and a variety of finds.

Brighton Marina Car Boot: A Professional Affair

My first stop was the Brighton Marina Car Boot. Known for its picturesque setting by the sea, the Marina is a hub of activity, attracting both locals and tourists. The car boot sale here is renowned for its professional dealers, and this visit did not disappoint.

As I wandered through the neatly arranged stalls, I was struck by the quality and variety of items on display. From antique jewellery to vintage clothing, retro electronics to classic vinyl records, each stall had something intriguing to offer. The dealers were knowledgeable and passionate about their collections, eager to share stories behind their items. I found myself particularly drawn to a beautiful 1950s typewriter, its keys still in perfect working condition. The dealer shared its history, adding a personal touch that made the find even more special.

Prices at the Marina car boot were on the higher side, reflecting the quality and rarity of the items. However, the opportunity to acquire such unique pieces made it worthwhile. Whether you’re a seasoned collector or a curious novice, the Marina Car Boot is a must-visit for anyone serious about vintage hunting.

Brighton Racecourse Car Boot: A Family Affair

In contrast to the professional setup at the Marina, the Brighton Racecourse Car Boot Sale offered a more laid-back and familial atmosphere. Situated on the expansive grounds of the racecourse, this car boot sale was a delightful mix of families looking to clear out their attics and casual sellers with interesting odds and ends.

The charm of the Racecourse car boot lies in its unpredictability. Each stall was a potential goldmine, filled with items that ranged from quirky to valuable. I stumbled upon a box of old postcards, each one a little time capsule from different parts of the world. Another stall had an assortment of vintage kitchenware, evoking a sense of nostalgia for simpler times. The sellers, mostly families, were friendly and open to haggling, adding to the fun of the hunt.

Prices here were much more affordable, making it a perfect spot for bargain hunters. I left with a bag full of treasures, including Vinyl records, a BIBA Handbag, Vintage Adidas and  vintage Fred Perry, all without breaking the bank.

The Joy of the Hunt

Hunting for vintage items is more than just a shopping experience; it's a journey through time. Each item carries a story, a piece of history waiting to be discovered. Brighton, with its vibrant car boot sales, offers the perfect setting for such adventures. Whether you're exploring the professional stalls at the Marina or the family setups at the Racecourse, you're bound to find something that resonates with you.

My week in Brighton was filled with delightful discoveries and memorable interactions. If you have a love for all things vintage, I highly recommend spending a day at these car boot sales. Who knows what treasures you'll uncover?
